Dove Pink Star Walk
by Ranita Nand
For those of you who don’t know, October is the official month for Breast Cancer Awareness in New Zealand.
To celebrate, the second annual Dove Pink Star Walk was held at the Auckland Domain last Saturday.
The 5km charity walk started at 8pm, and those who took part (including myself) were encouraged to dress up in a creative pink outfit with decorative pink wings.
The domain was illuminated in pink and there was a lot of entertainment to encourage those who participated.
Everybody recieved goodie bags and special prizes were given out to those who had the best pink outfit.
Many people came out with crazy outfits and my personal favourite were the three guys (pictured) - they looked super cool!
Donations towards the walk will help to fund research for prevention and cure of breast cancer.
It was also a good oportunity to inform and educate people of the reality of breast cancer in New Zealand and what we can do to reduce personal risk.
Overall the night was great fun and a lot of people (and dogs) went out of their way to dress up and take part. The night ended with a spectacular fire works display.
Also this month to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness there will be all kinds of events and activities taking place which will be worth looking out for.
