A Bourne winner?
By Shawn Ashley
Starring Matt Damon, Joan Allen, and Scott Glenn The Bourne Ultimatum is the third and final movie in the Bourne Identity trilogy.
The movie hit theaters in New Zealand on August 23rd and since then it’s rocked the box offices.
According to the New Zealand Herald, in it’s first week it brought in over $900,000, which is more than both Die Hard 4 and The Simpsons Movie.
Both the Bourne Identify and The Bourne Supremacy did a wonderful job of leaving the audience on the edge of their seat waiting to find out what happens next in the trilogy.
However, if you weren’t already excited to see what happens next, The Bourne Ultimatum starts off with a bang. The action parked start does an excellent job of drawing it’s audience into the movie right off the bat.
Fans of the first two movies will be relieved to see some familiar characters from the first two movies. Some of those characters include Nicky (played by Julia Stiles), and Pamela Landy (played by Joan Allen).
The movie ties in well with the other two movies and does provide a good conclusion to the trilogy. The movie keeps a good pace, keeping a good balance between action and story.
Despite it’s good points, the movie wasn’t perfect. The worst flaw that I noticed was some shaky camera work. The parts in particular that were rather shaky were specifically in chase scenes as well as many fight scenes. Although this might have been on purpose to create a sort of “frantic” feeling in the audience, in my opinion it was just distracting, and took away from the action.
A second flaw was that parts of the movie seemed a bit cliché, and were a bit expected. I’ve seen heaps of car chases in heaps of other action movies.
The trilogy is based on a book series written by author Robert Ludlum. Since I’ve never read the books I can’t really compare the movies to the books.
The one thing I can say for sure though is that if you’re in the mood for a good action film Die Hard 4.0 does an excellent job of providing plenty of action packed entertainment. However if you are a fan of the other Bourne movies be sure to give The Bourne Ultimatum a chance.
