Looking for action and entertainment?

The Auckland Luge opened on Friday 20th September, just in time for school holidays.

The new three track luge allows punters to go at speeds ranging from nice and slow ‘scenic track’ to a more intense thrill, ranging from speeds up to 40kmh.

Prices range from $7 for one ride, to $28 for five rides. Discounted rates are available for members only.

Open from 10am-10pm, the luge competes with Snowplanet and Action Raceway for entertainment goers.

The Herald newspaper reports that the luge is expected to attract 200,000 visitors each year.

The initial $2 million budget was blown by $8 million, through costing for the car park, infrastructure, and new roads.

Former Snowplanet employee Charlotte Low says: “It’s a great idea. The coast is only really known for its beaches, so having action and adventure facilities makes it a place you can come to all year round.”

The complex boasts an 18-hole mini golf course and café which encourages punters to stick around after riding down the three tracks.

North Shore student Chris Ardern says: “I’m glad there is finally somewhere to go for entertainment. Places such as Rainbows End aren’t as good as overseas attractions. It’s a good idea to step things up.”

The luge is located in Silverdale, off East Coast Bays Road.
