Eyes offer a window to your health
by Beth Allan
They say the eyes are the window to the soul, but some say they’re the windows to the body.
Iridology is the practice of reading the iris – the coloured part of your eye – to gain insights into your body’s condition.
I recently had a reading done at Chancery Nature’s Health and found it to be very accurate, with the reader picking up on many issues that I hadn’t mentioned at all.
Store owner Gina Mundy says iridology is a diagnostic tool that can be used by people who practice homeopathy and naturopathy, or herbalists and chiropractors.
“You get people that think it’s a whole lot of crap, but it’s a science and is backed up,” she says.
“It’s all to do with how the eye is made up. It’s not a psychic tool seeing into the future or past – it’s a science.”
Iridology readings are also popular at Ponsonby Health Shop, owned by Ayyub Bhikoo and his wife.
“Iridology is still going strong,” says Mr Bhikoo.
“People say it’s dying off but it’s not – people like having their eyes looked at.”
Back to Health osteopath Fadi Nasrallah says his patients have sometimes been to an iridologist before they come to him to get their back fixed, and the readings are “relatively accurate”.
“I think it’s useful,” he says.
Iridology readings usually take about half an hour. It costs $20 at the Chancery store and $45 in Ponsonby. Patients then have the option of buying products to aid their issues.
