From Marty to Party Marty
by Melanie Smith
Marty has always suffered from FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out).
He wants to be at everything and take every opportunity, just in case something monumental occurs and he misses out on the time of his life.
Parties and events have always been all Marty ever thinks about, which is what inspired him to start up Marty’s Guide just over a year ago.
According to Marty, the purpose of the guide and the website is to get people out and about, give them fresh options if they are at a loose end, introduce people to one another and ensure they have the best time possible.
Indeed, the guide does provide a comprehensive list of the goings on in Auckland which you wouldn’t read about in other publications. Plus, the website features loads of photos which are always fun to have a peek at, in order to see who’s wearing what/attending which parties/getting smashed at said parties, etc.
You can count on Marty to always be at the best gigs around town. He’s the guy who’ll be dressed in a crazy wig, surrounded by an entourage of ‘up for it’ party goers, amping up the crowd, and encouraging everyone to dance, drink, and let their hair down.
A typical night out with Marty ends at 8pm the next day. Marty doesn’t do things by halves, he’s committed to the cause and won’t stop till he gets enough.
But he has made a commitment to compete in the upcoming Auckland Marathon, which means he has some early nights on the cards.
So how does he sustain this hedonistict lifestyle? How does the legendary Party Marty make a living?
Well, he does actually have a real job, as an Events and Marketing Manager for a large Auckland bar, plus he makes money by organising his own parties and through big business sponsorship.
Marty’s latest aspiration is to start up his own Public Relations/Marketing company. And with his enthusiasm and dedicated optimism, I reckon it’s only a matter of a time . . . watch this space.
He won’t be invited to my party. Think of the people he would bring . . .
