McD’s new pie as good as Nana’s

I don’t actually remember if my grandmother made pie.

But if she did, I’m sure it would’ve been traditional and natural, with a tart kick softened by hokey pokey ice cream.

It would’ve been delicious but not so delicious, perhaps, as McDonalds’ limited edition Raspberry and Apple Pie.

I dived right in to grab one when I saw the sign on top of my local branch. Alas, they were sold out! “Where are they all?” I asked the timid counter girl. She didn’t know.

I popped in again at the next opportunity and this time there was a Sold Out sticker on the ad above the counter, stopping me in my tracks before I could ask any more dim questions.

Determined to get my just desserts, I next marched into the Queen St branch, where I spied one of the elusive treats waiting for me in the warmer tray. “Have they been selling well?” I asked the confident counter boy. “Very popular,” he said.

Admittedly, the filling of the pie is a more fluorescent shade of pink than one might expect from an organic version. It’s possibly sweeter and more gelatinous too. But, hey, don’t let your diet hold you back! This pie alone stands between you and heaven.

The Raspberry and Apple pie is supposed to be available For a Limited Time Only but, with all the demand, maybe it will stick around for good.
