Mad feeds on Mercury Lane

New Gum Sarn Market is a haven of tasty, cheap and convenient food, located in the city and perfectly suited to a student on a budget.

New Gum Sarn Market, situated on Mercury Lane off K Road, features an Asian supermarket which stocks all your grocery needs; as well as a dodgy looking food court which features the best Asian takeaways money can buy!

The food court doesn’t look like much from the outside or inside, and I admit, I was nervous throughout my first trip to New Gum Sarn Market as the interior led me to believe that the food had the potential to make me ill.

But now after twice weekly visits to New Gum Sarn Market for the duration of this year, I am officially a Gum Sarn convert who would happily eat my every meal there.

The sushi which is available courtesy of ‘Japanese Sushi and Salmon’ is the best sushi I have ever tasted. Forget the sushi review which featured in Debate a few weeks back, as their verdict that the sushi at Metro food court is the best in the city holds no strength when compared with the sushi at New Gum Sarn Market.

Where else can you get nine pieces of sushi, which is made fresh to order, for the price of $8.00? Plus, there is no extra cost for ginger and wasabi. Oh, and did I mention that if you eat at the food court you get a free bowl of miso?

There are always a vast array of interesting characters to gawk at when you’re dining at New Gum Sarn Market . . . Drunks, homeless people, rowdy students, and emos . . . Everyone is welcome at New Gum Sarn Market and everyone leaves satisfied as the food is just that good.
