Fun at the Food Show
Die-hard foodies were in their element when one of New Zealand’s most popular food shows hit Auckland last week.
I was there for three days in a row, and managed to intake far more than my daily food requirements.
Breads, dips, chocolate, wine, cookies, popcorn, curry and sausages . . . you name it, it was all there, available for sampling and sales at the annual Food Show.
The Food Show has been a fixture on the New Zealand calendar for eight years now and has firmly established itself as the country’s pre-eminent culinary event.
Originally designed to meet the growing food and entertaining needs of metropolitan New Zealand by matching them with suppliers and organisations, The Food Show has become an annual social and networking event.
The show, which attracted approximately 35,000 visitors over the weekend, encourages New Zealanders of all ages, lifestyles and backgrounds to sample a variety of foods and wines, as well as learn new styles of cooking, and explore the depths of their palettes. It’s about educating everyday New Zealanders - not just foodies - to experiment with food.
I sampled a LOT at The Food Show and my greatest discoveries were the Himalayan Goji juice, the Wild South pinot noir, the Abe’s Real Bagel crisps, and the Natural Confectionary Co. licorice. Unfortunately none of these foods mixed well in my tummy, which means my appetite has been temporarily spoiled.
The Food Show is a culinary experience not to be missed by dedicated foodies. And I for one will be first in line to sample its delights when it returns next year.
