New motorway means drivers pay to wait

Summer is nearing, which means packed beaches and traffic jams for holiday-goers.

The new Orewa to Puhoi tolled motorway, to be finished in 2009, is meant to make traffic flow lighter as drivers do not have to pass through Orewa residential zone at 50kmh.

Despite being under its estimated $360 million budget, the motorway has currently run into problems. Read more

Should pregnant women be served alcohol?

A pregnant woman was questioned and reprimanded by a bartender when she ordered a light alcoholic beverage at an Auckland bar recently.

What use to be seen as a ‘no no’ for pregnant women now appears to be slipping into an acceptable trend, with the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow being seen drinking a beer while pregnant with baby number two.

Studies show 50 per cent of women in New Zealand believe drinking some alcohol during pregnancy is acceptable. Read more

Luge opens at Silverdale

Silverdale Luge has finally opened, and just in time for the school holidays.

Located between Snowplanet and the Silverdale indoor go-cart and outdoor bumper-boat centre at Action Raceway, the park boasts three luge tracks, each are four metres wide and vary from 1km to 1.5km long.

The earthquake took place 475km south of NZ near an archipelago known as the Auckland Islands.
