Is NZ all it’s cracked up to be?
I don’t know about you, but most people I talk to are either planning to move or are moving over to Aussie.
I can’t say too much because I am one of these people, but what’s so wrong with New Zealand?
I decided to discover why Australia seems to be the place to go.
Statistics released in 2007 from the Department of Immigration show 23,906 New Zealanders moved to Australia in the 2006-07 financial year, up from 19,033 the previous year.
So, with these numbers in mind, here are a few other factors that might be luring people across the Tasman.
Weather and Beaches
The sun, waves, and beaches seem to be the desire that some New Zealanders crave.
Not that we don’t have all of those things available on tap in NZ, but Australia seems to have an endless supply of sun and waves - something you can rarely see here.
Party Scene
The nightlife in Auckland city is nowhere near as huge as Sydney.
Those suffering from the so-called ‘man-drought’ in New Zealand should have a go at looking in a few clubs over the ditch.
Auckland Landscape apprentice, Hayley Adamson says: “When I went on holiday to Gold Coast last year, the amount of dancing and drinking they did was insane compared to here.”
Job opportunities
According to the NZ Herald, wages are rising in Australia, and after tax, are twice the rate as in New Zealand.
Australia also has a larger economy than New Zealand, meaning more job options for those deciding to move there.
There are many benefits that are luring many to leave New Zealand behind, but one thing that isn’t is the Aussie accent!
