Waking up next to an unfamiliar, overweight, furry, foul-smelling man is nothing short of any girl’s absolute worst nightmare.

This is exactly why film Knocked Up makes for such an utterly horrifying, yet hugely hilarious watch.

The film follows gorgeous E! News presenter Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl from Grey’s Anatomy) after a drastic lapse in judgement, which leads her to a fateful one-night-stand with the podgy, curly-haired, stoner, Ben Stone (Seth Rogen).

As horrendous as it sounds, watching this hard-working, sensible girl come to terms with the fact that she is now forever bound to possibly the world’s crudest man literally had my sides aching from laughter.

Director Judd Apatow, whose other credits include The 40-year-old virgin, and TV series Freaks and Geeks, has again outdone himself with an exceptionally clever comedy that oozes charm, wit and hilarity.

It is the bizarre ensemble of characters in this movie that really makes it stand above the average light hearted teen comedy: Alison’s highly strung sister; Ben’s nudity-loving, hairy, drug addicted group of flatmates – all who work designing a soft porn web site - bring huge amounts of colour and total craziness to the screen.

The dramatic hormonal performances of Heigl along, with Rogen’s brilliant portrayal of a penniless, stressed out, father-to-be also add to the movie’s merit.

As hilarious as this movie is, I wouldn’t recommend it for the easily offended or the faint hearted. One very realistic and therefore completely disturbing scene shows the baby actually emerging from the birth canal. Can’t say that I’ve seen that in a comedy before!

So grab a bunch of your most un-PC friends and head down the cinema to see Knocked Up. If you’re anything like me, you’ll still be laughing for days after seeing it.
